Setting out for Dent. This is the guest house I stayed at overnight. Ebor House
in Hawes. Excellent and good value.

This is where the series was filmed - Askrigg. Just a few miles from
my stop for the night. It’s starting to rain again so I wish I was there
now although I’m not particularly tired.

Part push, part pedal. To reach the top of these inclines you have to know
when it’s quicker to push. Some of the steep inclines are beyond my
lowest gear.
The sun has come out in the dale about ten miles from where I am. It
won’t last.
This is a tough ride but very rewarding and each mile is worth pounds
for the students we’re bringing across from Bethlehem to the summer
school. An added bonus.

Somewhere above the village of Redmire in Wensleydale Is this gated
road. The weather is fine at the moment but there’s rain up the dale.
I may miss it as I’m heading for Swaledale
This is the map I’ll be using when I ride the Yorkshire Dales Cycleway on July 7th/8th. It’s all for charity - I’m raising funds to bring five Palestinian Christians to the UK for the Riding Lights Summer School.

The total is rising nicely and I hope to reach my target before setting off for Grassington to start the ride. If I do, each mile will be worth £15.00
Thanks if you are one of those who’s contributed to the total.
Studley Royal is the deer park next to Fountains Abbey in North Yorkshire. It’s where I first drove a car (long private road) and the place Joan and I had a picnic at the end of our honeymoon. There’s a tranquility about this place that we love.
On this visit we picked up fish ‘n chips from the chip shop on Bondgate Green in Ripon and drove up here to eat them. This was the first day this year it was pleasant enough to eat outside. The food was delicious. The chip shop fries only fresh fish and the order was cooked as I waited. When we lived in Ripon, Bondgate Green was the best chippie in the city, and 35 years later it still is - possibly better.
We took our eldest son, Warwick, with us. After tea we walked alongside the lake for a while until the air cooled and then made short detour to take in the city centre in Ripon as we drove home. Always fond memories of our early married life and the place where our first two children were born.
