Another week in Dorset

Monday, September 14th, 2009

I’m working with East Dorset Arts again this week training trainers in Verwood. Excellent facilities at The Verwood Hub make working working there a pleasure. Great people too. So if you live in the East Dorset area look out for opportunities to join a digital storytelling workshop there soon.

The workflow continues

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

I spent Friday morning in East Dorset explaining to a group of people in Wimborne Minster how digital storytelling works. These sessions do me as much good as the people I’m presenting to. Somehow it re-ignites my vision for the whole process, and as the group start to tell stories of their own I get a new sense of how many stories are waiting to be told.

So sometime this spring I shall be in Dorset Training Trainers to deliver workshops of their own.

And on Monday I am at the National Media Museum in Bradford to start a workshop for Broadcast Engineers. The weather’s not looking too kind at the moment (Sunday evening) but hopefully the train will take me there – and those participating.

Voices in unison

The second day of the Culture Shock training trainers workshop in Beamish was successful. Everyone recorded their script and edited it. Images have been scanned and resized. The search is on for old pictures and other photos ready for the next phase of the workshops which starts on Thursday.

Culture Shock

Monday, September 8th, 2008

Today is the start of one of the biggest digital storytelling projects in the UK. Culture Shock has a target of collecting 1,000 digital stories in two years gathered from people in the North East of England. The stories will be prompted by objects from museum collections in the region.
This is the first training trainers workshop. Most of the participants are outreach officers from the museums. A great bunch of people. We’ve had lots of fun and they’re entering into the spirit of the project enthusiastically.
We’re based in the Regional Resource Centre at the Beanish Museum in County Durham. Facilities are good and we’re using MacBooks bought for the project so they’re brand new.
The workshop lasts all week with the World Premiere on Friday. One of these days I’ll live stream one of these events. But not this one.

Helping families keep in touch

Helping families keep in touch – nebusiness.co.uk
The official launch saw five African families take part in a three-day digital storytelling workshop as part of Changing Perspectives – a project which aims to create a multimedia archive to celebrate the heritage of African and Caribbean families living in the North East.
The launch event saw families create their own three-minute films for publication on the programme’s website and will also go forward to be broadcast at a world premiere event during black history month in October.
The workshop involved script writing, voice-over recording, and mastering industry-standard image and video editing production.
Participants used personal stories of their experience from living in both Africa and the North East and pictures from their family photo album.
Peter Adegbie, creator of the Changing Perspectives programme, said: “I am so pleased to launch the new NEEACA building with the Changing Perspectives digital storytelling project as this exemplifies what the new building is all about.
“The stories from the families will be truly inspirational and will give a real insight into their views of being of African descent and their experiences of living in the North East.

Peter Adegbie trained on one of my Train the Trainers courses. It’s good to see the project in the North East getting started … and gaining some publicity too. By the way, this is not related to the other project I am linked to in the North East.

Training trainers workshop

I am planning the next workshop for trainers who want to run their own digital storytelling projects

It will be held at a retreat and conference centre near Huddersfield in West Yorkshire. It’s beautifully situated in the Yorkshire Pennines and just off the M62 so access is easy.

Westwood Centre

The provisional dates are June 17th – 20th 2008. If I receive enough firm bookings I will go ahead and book the venue. If you’re interested email me at info at digistories.co.uk It would help me to know by Friday 2nd May.

The cost for the course is £500.00 + VAT – all you need to supply is a story and some pictures.
